Okay you guys. I feel kind of bad about this, but in our top 5 games of the year segment last show, we all made the mistake of forgetting that Resident Evil 4 was released at the top of 2005 (January 11th, to be exact.) For me, this game was amazing and needs at least a small mention.
No, it needs to take my #1 spot.
I'm truly sorry, Shadow of the Colossus. You have to be bumped to #2.
Resident Evil 4 was that amazing. It was Resident Evil perfected. It was as scary and intense as any movie, and more beautiful and seamless than any game before it (or, indeed, many games after it this year.)
Just LOOK at it.

What were YOUR top games of 2005? Send your list to mailbag@weeklygeekshow.com!

Jack Thompson just can't stay out of the public eye for long, can he?
From the article:
Miami, Florida-based Attorney Jack Thompson today announced that he has purchased stock in Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO).
The news came as a shock, but it appears that Thompson isn't out to make a profit from the stock. Rather, Thompson bought the stock so he could attend Take-Two's shareholders' meetings. At the meeting, Thompson plans to raise the issue of Take-Two CEO Paul Eibeler causing Take-Two's stock to fall through "catastrophic corporate governance."
Wow. Just. Wow.

There comes a time in the life of a podcast, little Timmy, when that podcast starts to notice little changes. Hair growing in strange places, and a strange feeling when other podcasts walk by. It is in this time of a podcast's life that it needs to grow and change. That is why, Timmy, today we are announcing an open casting call for an additional host to The Weekly Geek. We are growing, and we feel our programming should grow as well. Here are the specifics:
• This is an unpaid position. It may become paid in the future when budget allows. You do, however, get to keep any review copies of product you solicit, and the opportunities for bonuses such as games and trips are plentiful.
• Applicant must have an extensive knowledge of gaming, and be completely current on gaming trends, news, and terms. Must be an avid gamer.
• Applicant must have own recording equipment, which includes adequate quality headset, computer for recording and reliable broadband internet connection. Software can be provided.
• Applicant must be available each week for recordings, generally between the hours of 6-7PM on Sunday evenings. Times can be flexible, but you must be reliable. We need someone who can be on the show every week, no exceptions.
• Previous broadcast/podcast experience not required, but is a plus.
• Must be self-motivated and energetic.
If you are interested and believe you qualify, please send cover letter outlining your qualifications (resume not needed) and a short audio recording (aircheck) to
frodo@weeklygeekshow.com (please no large files over 15mb or so). The recording can be a sample of voice or on-air work, or it can be an audio cover letter. We are flexible.
We will be going through a short casting/interview process with qualified applicants to see if they mesh well with the current show format, and play nicely with current hosts. You don't have to be local to any of the hosts, you can be from anywhere in the world.
Good luck and I look forward to hearing your awesome airchecks!

From Gamespot:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141010.html
A 16-year-old Texas gamer who threatened to torture and kill antigaming pundit Jack Thompson was arrested earlier today at his high school by the Harris Country Sheriff's Office, according to Thompson, a Florida attorney.
"The specifics of the torture with which Thompson was threatened are so grotesque that they cannot be properly placed in this news release," Thompson wrote in a mass e-mail addressed to news outlets, politicians, and industry groups. "The torture was to end with the shooting of Thompson, as in this teen's favorite games."
Listen. While you and your friends may have thought it was funny to do this, and maybe you were a bit encouraged by
Penny Arcade's campaign against Mr. Thompson, it is supremely NOT SMART to go through with ANYTHING. Not only did this set our cause back an immense amount, but it only fueled Thompson's craziness. All the stuff he has gone through the past couple months, being almost nearly completely discredited, all of that can be erased by this one incident. All it takes is for that crazy asshole to go on CNN and talk about how he is a victim of these horrible video games influencing children and he is back in everyone's favor.
I am just glad that our listeners aren't as retarded as this kid.
I mean... you're not, right?

Season 4 of Batman the Animated Series is now available on DVD. You need to go get it now.
Season 4 is when they did the big redesign of art and animation.
I always forget how amazing this show is until I watch it again. I mean, I know it's awesome, but then I watch an episode and it just blows me away.

Hi all! I've been playing with designs in AC: WW ever since I took a peek at the pattern maker on DS Meet. I bet you can't guess what I made!
My new clothing pattern.
My new town flag.
Ta-da! Big surprise, huh? ;)
Also, here is the grid I made for posing my nifty designs. Just open the grid in your favorite picture editing program and use the paint bucket tool to fill in each square with the appropriate color.

I think we should petition the Traditional Holiday Songs Council to officially change they lyrics to Walkin' in a Winter Wonder land to be thusly:
In the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he is Alton Brown
He'll say, "Have you eaten?" We'll say, "No, man."
"But you can cook for us when you're in town."

Some big geeky news items from today that I wanted to discuss with you fellow geeks:
iTunes added a huge amount of new tv shows to its lineup, including NBC shows The Office, Surface and Law and Order, USA shows like Monk, and my own personal exciting bit of news, Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica. If you haven't used it yet, the iTunes music store is excellent for downloading video, and at $2 a pop, it is generally cheaper than buying the DVDs. Now finally I can get caught up on Galactica...
Also, an X-3 teaser trailer is up, and honestly I had no idea they had gotten so much done on the movie. Last I heard they didn't even have a director, but as you can see from the teaser they seem to have some principal CG work done. That's pretty far into the project, I'd say. Kelsey Grammer is featured in the teaser as Beast, and he looks passable! I was a bit worried about the project not being helmed by Brian Singer, but if this teaser is any indication, X-3 is going to be very, very good. I heart X-Men.
PEACE OUT and don't forget to download this week's show.
