Regardless of our apelike fanboy lust for Valve's most recent release The Orange Box we have to admit there are some minor problems. Even near godlike releases have bugs that require a fix post-release, thankfully, the people at Valve recognize that fact and are planning an update to fix some of the problems reported with Team Fortress 2.
The patch will fix numerous bugs in the game including bandwidth issues, stats reporting, menu enhancements and exploit fixing. Valve investigated the issues after reading forums posts made by Team Fortress 2 players, showing Valve to be every ounce the incredibly awesome game studio we've always known them to be.
In addition to patching purported problems, Valve is at work on new maps which don't as yet have a release date. The patch has already been submitted to Microsoft and will most likely see release before Christmas.

While Portal is just 1/5th of Valve's excellent Orange Box, I am reviewing it separately because it deserves it. I am also shaking up the normal review formula we use here at The Weekly Geek because Portal shakes up the way we think about video games. So there.
It's difficult to discuss Portal in any fashion that doesn't reveal spoilers. So I am saying to you right now, don't read this if you haven't played it. If you haven't played it, go pick it up. I am going to say right here in the beginning of the article that it is probably the game of the year. Yes, even over Bioshock. This is a must-own game for anyone who is a fan of fun. It's genuinely hilarious, challenging without being frustrating, and so well-designed and polished I literally cannot come up with any flaws to harp on. Yes, it's that good. Go get it. Got it? Played through it? Good. Hit the jump for my review.

Tucked away in the corner of the EA booth, with very little fanfare, was the Orange Box. Well, most of the Orange Box. They had a demo reel of Team Fortress 2 (one of the many non-playable games on the show floor, the bastards) and Portal running on the PS3. While playing something like Portal on the PS3 with a controller isn't the most preferable thing in the world... it's fucking PORTAL. I've been anticipating this awesome puzzle game for quite some time, and I have to say it lives up to the hype. It will be interesting to see what the actual writing in the game is like, I was just able to play through a couple of puzzles. It seems like the final version is going to be ridiculously difficult as you progress. I just hope it's not too short, because from what I have played Portal is a game you are going to want to play a LOT this coming holiday. The Orange Box is one of the best gaming deals to come around in years, hands down.
